Peter Moltoni together with Craig Miller are the founders of M Squared & Associates Pty Ltd. Peter has been a senior Director/Partner involved in Taxation Consulting for over 25 years, and his primary area of specialisation is in the international taxation arena, predominantly in the Oil and Gas industry.
He has also advised extensively on corporate reconstructions, consolidations and demergers , and continues to advise on inbound and outbound taxation matters and as such is well versed in the taxation laws relating to foreign branches and subsidiaries.
Peter has also briefed Counsel on various taxation matters and has appeared before the Administrative Appeals Tribunal .
In 2007, Peter was elected President of the Taxation Institute of Australia. In addition to this he was one of three professionals working with the Western Australian Office of State Revenue in the recent rewrite of the Duties Act.
When not on a plane or attending a "conference" Peter can be found on a golf course, usually in the bush looking for yet another wayward drive, or buying jugs of beer due to not passing the ladies tee on his drives. His other passion is his wine collection. Unfortunately the wine collection is taking longer than anticipated due to excessive tasting of new acquisitions.
Craig Miller together with Peter Moltoni, is one of the founders of M Squared & Associates Pty Ltd. Craig's areas of expertise include assisting his clients to access the myriad of Federal, State and industry based grants, concessions, rebates, offsets, reimbursements and the like that most businesses find too difficult or time-consuming to undertake themselves. Craig also provides specialist advice to technology based companies, primarily in start-up or early commercialization phases and assistance with their structuring, corporate and tax compliance, financing and intellectual property protection.
By way of background, Craig was a late starter in the field of accounting, having spent a considerable portion of his earlier life competing at a national and international level in the sport of fencing. By birth, Craig is a Kiwi, however he has now clocked up more time in Oz than in Aotearoa and considers himself a citizen of Australasia.
Having ceased fencing, Craig attended Curtin University of Technology as a mature age student, obtained a Bachelor of Business in Accounting & Business Law, and upon graduation, commenced work in the Australian Taxation Office. During the seven years Craig spent in the ATO, he worked in both an advice and audit capacity, in areas primarily dealing with income tax and fringe benefits tax and gained his CPA qualification as well as commencing his Masters of Taxation with the University of New South Wales.
Craig left the ATO as a Senior Officer in the Mergers & Acquisitions Team of Large Business, to join the Corporate Tax Consulting team run by Peter Moltoni in an accounting firm that became Horwath (WA) Pty Ltd. In his eight years with Horwath, Craig completed his Masters of Taxation, undertook the Institute of Chartered Accountants Professional Year course to gain his CA and became a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. In April 2007, Horwath merged with BDO to form BDO Kendalls (WA) Pty Ltd and Craig was appointed a Director of the Corporate Tax Advisory area.
In his spare time, Craig has two children to torment, a large commercial hydroponic market garden to run and his passion for golf is only exceeded by his ability to guide his golf ball behind a tree, bush, marker, or any other obstacle that will make his next shot even more challenging.
Tracy Dragojevich has worked in an Administration/Personal Assistant role for more than 13 years, 7 and 1/2 of these years was as Personal Assistant to Peter Moltoni at his previous Accounting firm. Tracy continues this role at M Squared, working diligently to keep track of Peter on an hourly basis and manage his daily schedule of meetings and appointments. Tracy also is responsible for the preparation and lodgement of ASIC documents and forms, setting up new companies, organising the firm's travel bookings, looking after the ATO lodgements and other administration duties.
In her 13 years as a Personal Assistant Tracy has developed excellent computer and research skills, as well as exceptional communication skills and has a very good rapport with customers, clients, suppliers and fellow staff members. Tracy was a valuable contributor in the establishment of M Squared and was able to bring her communication skills and numerous contacts to the forefront which enabled the smooth and timely establishment of M Squared and their offices.
In her spare time Tracy can be seen running around the netball court, shopping, holidaying at an exotic location and spending time with family & friends.
Shahan Millen has worked in an Administration/Personal Assistant role for 10 years, 4 months of this time was as a Personal Assistant to Craig Miller at his previous Accounting firm. Shahan continues this role at M Squared, working diligently to keep track of Craig so that he and his family know where he is and what he's supposed to be doing at all times. Shahan is also responsible for processing the firms payroll and preparation of the firms financial accounts on a monthly basis. Shahan is also gaining experience in Bookkeeping and utilising MYOB Accounting Software and with this skill she is able to provide assistance to clients on how to use the software effectively.
In her 10 years as a Personal Assistant Shahan has developed excellent computer, organisational and communication skills, and has a very good rapport with all customers, clients, suppliers and fellow staff members. Shahan was a valuable contributor in the establishment of M Squared and was able to bring her organisational skills to the forefront which enabled the smooth and timely establishment of M Squared and their offices.
In her spare time Shahan can be seen training for the City to Surf, walking after her dogs and if you can't find her, she will be away at various locations for weekends.
Alison Brooks has been working in the Accounting Industry for over 20 years. She predominantly worked in the Administration area in roles including Bookkeeper, Executive Assistant, HR Co-ordinator, Payroll Officer and IT Manager. During her working career, Alison was also involved in sport at a high level. She was a National Softball Representative and National and International Taekwondo Representative. Alison finished her high level sporting career recently retiring as an International Taekwondo Referee.
Prior to following Craig and Peter to M Squared, Alison took a year's long service leave from their former accounting firm, and travelled to the UK. Here she worked for 11 months in the IT Department of a large Law Firm, and it was here that she learnt to appreciate accountants more, through having to deal with lawyers.
Alison is currently responsible for Research and Development and Government Grants and Concessions. She was also a valued contributer to the establishment of MSquared, responsible for setting up MSquared's internal network, phones and security systems which was done in a smooth and efficent manner, enabling MSquared to be up and running in an extremely short time. Alison continues to handle all aspects of the firms internal IT requirements, she has extensive knowledge in Accounting Software, and uses her IT and Software Application knowledge to assist clients and associates where required.
In her spare time Alison likes to catch up with friends and family, go to the gym and participate in a variety of sports.
Simon Ross began his accounting career in 2004 in the Corporate Tax field with Craig and Peter at their former Accounting firm. He then joined them in establishing M Squared. Simon's planning and organisational skills were a key benefit when it came to setting M Squared up, as he was able to ensure all forms and documentation were completed and lodged on time, enabling the business to be up and running quickly.
Simon is a Manager at M Squared, specialising in Research and Development, Government Grants and Concessions, Consolidated Taxation, Tax Effect Calculations, Financial Accounting and Taxation for Small to Medium Enterprises and Individuals. Originally from Kalbarri and born into a Cray Fishing family, Simon's dislike for fishing was a bonus to the Accounting Industry as, he is a hardworking and efficient practitioner who always strives to get the best results for his clients.
In his spare time Simon can be seen running up and down Jacob's Ladder, or socialising at any one of the many nightclubs or pubs in Perth. Simon also has a passion for Bumper Car Derby's and is noted for not only banging up his cars, but also those of his sisters.
Rachel Wilson has a Bachelor of Commerce with an Accounting Major from Canterbury University in New Zealand, as well as a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Asian Studies and History from New Zealand's Waikato University. Rachel commenced her accounting in Auckland, New Zealand, preparing accounts and assisting clients with their New Zealand tax compliance. In 2005 Rachel moved to Perth where she started working in the Corporate Tax field with Peter and Craig at their former Accounting firm. This is where she found her niche and started specialising in International tax consulting predominately for the Oil, Gas and Mining Industries.
Rachel is a Manager at M Squared, and has been with the firm since it's inception, Rachel was also a valuable contributor to the smooth and efficient establishment of M Squared. Rachel continues to specialise in International tax consulting, as well as providing assistance and advice on GST including deferrals and financial acquisition thresholds, tax effect calculations, corporate structuring and restructuring, withholding tax, employer obligations and compliance issues for expatriate workers including Australians overseas and foreigners working in Australia. She is also a member of the Taxation Institute of Australia's young Practitioner's Committee and on the Taxation Institute of Australia's Western Australia State convention committee.
Rachel is a very social person and it is recommended appointments are made in advance to see her, as she is often on an aeroplane travelling interstate or overseas. In her spare time Rachel enjoys trying to play Touch Rugby and shopping. Occasionally she's been seen shopping with Tracy until she maxes out her Credit Cards.
Pieta Hoddy has a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in financial accounting and investment finance with a minor in Business Law, and commenced her accounting career on a full-time basis in 2006 in the Corporate Tax field with Peter and Craig at their former Accounting firm, before following them to M Squared as an inaugural staff member. She is currently a member of the Taxation Institute of Australia, and will soon be admitted into the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Prior to commencing her accounting degree, Pieta also studied architecture and gained a Bachelor of Environmental Design, it was during this time that she worked part-time as an accounts clerk/accountant for another accounting firm. Pieta continued to work part-time during her Accounting degree to provide her with real world practical experience to go with her qualifications. Pieta's main work focus is in residency matters and the taxation of expatriates, for both Australians working overseas and foreign residents working in Australia, including overseeing the section 23AG work, claiming income tax exemptions for Australian residents carrying out their employment duties in foreign jurisdictions. Pieta also provides written taxation advice on both Australian and International taxation issues, predominantly for clients in the mining or oil & gas industries, and the preparation of Financial Accounts, Income Tax Returns, BAS and IAS forms.
Pieta is known for her organisational skills and attention for details, this is evident in her organisation of M&M chocolates into separate jars of the one colour. In her spare time, Pieta can be found indulging in her passion for traditional Italian cuisine (and not putting on any weight!), and architecture, antiques and travelling.
Nathan Webb has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Curtin University, specialising in Accounting and Business Law, and was the co-founder of the largest student society at Curtin University. Nathan began his accounting career in 2006 in the Corporate Tax field with Craig and Peter at their former Accounting firm, before following them to M Squared as an inaugural staff member.
Nathan's main work focus is advising in the areas of international corporate and expatriate taxation, as well as specialising in FBT, CGT and corporate restructures and acquisitions. He is currently a member of the Taxation Institute of Australia's young Practitioner's Committee, and will soon be admitted into the Institute of Chartered Accountants. In the short term, Nathan plans to undertake a Masters of International Taxation to further his qualification and skills sets.
In his spare time Nathan can be found making use of the firms Barista Coffee machine, and enjoying a few quiet beers, or a few rowdy jugs of Sangria.
Devlin Elliott has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree, majoring in Accounting and Taxation, and began his accounting career in 2006 in the Corporate Tax field with Peter and Craig at their former Accounting firm, before following them to M Squared as an inaugural staff member.
Devlin's main work focus is on the Corporate Tax Compliance side of the business, which includes personal tax structuring projects, preparation of Financial Accounts, Tax Returns, BAS and IAS forms for medium to large corporations and high wealth individuals. Devlin is currently completing his Chartered Accountants and Taxation Institute Programs which will enhance his passion for taxation and provide additional skill sets.
In his spare time Devlin enjoys Friday arvo drinks, and playing Football. When he is playing footy Devlin advises his work colleagues that he is buffed and can regularly be seen showing staff his six pack.
Cecilia Musuka has an accounting degree from Notre Dame University, and commenced her accounting career in 2007 when she joined the Audit department of Peter and Craig's former accounting firm, before moving to Peter and Craig's Corporate Tax department, and subsequently following Peter and Craig to M Squared.
Cecilia didn't start out as an Accountant, she took a very big roundabout route via Microbiology, Agri-Business Retail and Audit before finding her niche in Tax Consulting. Cecilia’s main work focus is on the preparation of Income Tax Returns, Financial Accounts, Tax Returns, BAS and IAS forms, as well as assisting with 23AG expatriate tax. Cecilia has also completed her studies in Migration Law and is currently setting up the Migration Services Division of M Squared.
Cecilia, after growing up in Zimbabwe, searched the world over for just the right scenic spots to spend her weekends. She has found a few such places along the Swan River and is now working on convincing the directors that her work efficiency would be greatly improved if she worked from a picnic rug along the foreshore. In her spare time, Cecilia can also be found getting down and groovy on the dance floor.
Sophie Kilmister is the newest and youngest member of M Squared, commencing in late February 2008 as an Accounting Assistant. Sophie completed her final year of high school at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar in 2007, and 2008 is her gap year working in the Accounting field. Sophie plans to begin a Bachelor of Commerce at Curtin University of Technology in 2009.
Sophie is a great contributor to M Squared, and has been assisting all members of the firm with a variety of work, including preparation of Income Tax Returns and Financial Accounts, preparation of BAS and IAS forms and working with other staff on 23AG/expatriate information.
In her spare time, Sophie is involved with Buzz Youth Camps, she has been involved with this since 2004. She also gets involved with various charity events, mainly for Amnesty International, both of these activities are rewarding and fulfilling for Sophie and the people she helps. Sophie is also a keen vocalist, and has been a member of a number of award winning School Based Vocal Groups, and although she has been known to hit the right notes, Sophie will need to remember how to do so before taking on a Karaoke microphone again.
