Craig Miller, together with Peter Moltoni, is one of the founders of M Squared & Associates Pty Ltd. Craig attended Curtin University of Technology as a mature age student, obtained a Bachelor of Business in Accounting & Business Law, and upon graduation, commenced work in the Australian Taxation Office (regardless of who you ask, he has either left or entered the "Dark Side") spending seven years with the ATO before moving into private practice.
Craig's areas of expertise include assisting clients to access the myriad of Federal, State and industry based grants, concessions, rebates, offsets, reimbursements and the like that most businesses find too difficult or time-consuming to undertake themselves. Craig also provides specialist advice to technology based companies, primarily in start–up or early commercialization phases and assistance with their structuring, corporate and tax compliance, financing and intellectual property protection.
Craig is a little hyperactive and not one for sleeping, which explains why he is both a Chartered Accountant as well as a Certified Practising Accountant, has gained a Masters of Taxation from the University of New South Wales and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Craig is now wanting to gain a PhD but the staff at M Squared and all his clients have unanimously agreed never to call him "Doctor".
In his "spare" time (apparently he has some) Craig loves to torment his extremely understanding wife and his two exceedingly hyper children. He also has a large commercial hydroponic market garden that he runs, and can be relied upon to volunteer to bring the salad to BBQ’s. Being a challenging type of person (just ask his staff and family) with a passion for golf, Craig specialises in precisely guiding shots into trees, bushes, and the like or positioning his golf ball behind or adjacent to any other obstacle that will make his next shot even more challenging and adventurous.
Simon Ross began his accounting career in 2004 in the Corporate Tax field with Craig and Peter at their former Accounting firm. He then joined them in establishing M Squared.
Simon is a Director at M Squared, specialising in Research and Development, Government Grants and Concessions, Consolidated Taxation, Tax Effect Calculations, Financial Accounting and Taxation for Small to Medium Enterprises and Individuals. Originally from Kalbarri and born into a Cray Fishing family, Simon’s dislike for fishing was a bonus to the Accounting Industry as, he is a hardworking and efficient practitioner who always strives to get the best results for his clients.
In his spare time Simon can be seen running up and down Jacob’s Ladder, or searching for any one of the new bars springing up in Perth.
Rachel Wilson has a Bachelor of Commerce from Canterbury University and a Bachelor of Arts from Waikato University, New Zealand. Kiwi born, raised in Singapore and Rachel has been in Perth since 2005, hence she has a somewhat multinational ‘soup’ accent. When she moved to Perth she started working for Peter and Craig where she found her niche and started specialising in International tax consulting predominately for the Oil, Gas and Mining Industries. Rachel is a Director at M Squared, and has been with the firm since its inception.
Rachel is a very social person and it is recommended appointments are made in advance to see her, as she is often on an aeroplane travelling interstate or overseas......In fact London is her second home...... In her spare time Rachel attempts to exercise in Kings Park and also enjoys trying new cocktails and shopping................lunch times (when not out with clients) often result in black net-a-porter boxes appearing for both her and 'Lady'......
Alison Brooks has been working in the Accounting Industry for over 20 years, in a number of different roles.
Alison is a Manager and inaugural staff member of M Squared having stalked Craig and Peter to their new firm. Her primary focus is in attaining Federal and State Grants and Concessions for clients. She also undertakes financial account and tax return preparation, and looks after all aspects of the in-house IT Systems.
In her younger days, Alison was heavily involved in sport at a high level. She was a National Softball Representative and National and International Taekwondo Representative, she then finished participating at the high level retiring as an International Taekwondo Referee.
In her spare time Alison still dreams of what it would be like to be tall, tries to convince Simon that she is not the cause of the hike in the average age of M Squared staff, and stares longingly at her yearly Fireman's Calendar. Alison also likes to catch up with friends and family, go to the gym and participate in a variety of sports.
Nathan Webb has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Curtin University, specialising in Accounting and Business Law, and was the co-founder of the largest student society at Curtin University. Nathan began his accounting career in 2006 in the Corporate Tax field with Craig and Peter at their former Accounting firm, before following them to M Squared as an inaugural staff member.
Nathan's is a Manager at M Squared. His main work focus is advising in the areas of international corporate and expatriate taxation for drilling contracts and oil and gas workers, as well as specialising in FBT, CGT and corporate restructures and acquisitions. He a Fellow of the Taxation Insitute of Australia and currently serves on the Membership and Services Committee. He is also a qualified member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
In his spare time Nathan can be found utilising his skills as the firm's premier Barista, and enjoying a few quiet beers, or a few rowdy jugs of Sangria.
Devlin Elliott has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree, majoring in Accounting and Taxation. He began his accounting career in 2006 in the Corporate Tax field with Craig and Peter at their former Accounting firm, before following them to M Squared as an inaugural staff member.
Devlin is a Manager at M Squared focusing on the Corporate Tax Compliance side of the business, specifically specialising in corporate tax structuring, CGT, FBT and income tax compliance for medium to large corporations and high wealth individuals. He is currently a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and Taxation Institute of Australia.
When not hard at work, Devlin enjoys playing footy for the Trinity Aquinas Amateur Football Club and enjoying a beer or two with his mates.
Cecilia Musuka has a Masters of Professional Accounting Degree from the University of Notre Dame (Australia) and commenced her accounting career in 2007 in the Audit department of Peter and Craig's former accounting firm before moving to the Corporate Tax department and subsequently to M Squared as an inaugural team member. Cecilia is a member of the Taxation Institute of Australia and is currently working towards becoming a Chartered Accountant.
Cecilia focuses on advisory and compliance work in the area of expatriate taxation and residency matters for both Australians working overseas and foreign residents working in Australia, preparation of Financial Accounts for small to medium enterprises and individuals.
Cecilia is still trying to convince the directors that her work efficiency would be greatly improved if she worked from a picnic rug along the foreshore of the Swan River. When not working, Cecilia can be found getting out of breath trying to keep up with a super fast baby who has perfected the art of high speed crawling. Alternatively she may be in a fitness class or power walking (in order to keep fit and to keep up with the crawler).
Mathew Skinner has completed his Bachelor of Commerce Degree, majoring in Accounting from the University of Ballarat. Mathew started his accounting career in Victoria in early 2008 and has since moved to join the team at M Squared.
Mathew's work spotlight is tax compliance including the preparation of Financial Accounts for small to large corporations and high wealth individuals, he also assists with the firms Research and Development Tax Concessions, and State and Federal Grants. Mathew is currently working towards becoming a Chartered Accountant.
During his downtime from work and study Matty enjoys surfing at all of the great beaches found in WA and chilling out listening to tunes.
Emma Grant has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Curtin University, specialising in Accounting and Business Law, and was Vice President and Human Resources representative of the largest student society at Curtin University. She was also the Business Representative in the Curtin Student Guild in 2009. Emma began her accounting career on a full time basis in 2009 as a graduate accountant at M Squared.
Emma's main work focus is in residency matters and the taxation of expatriates, for both Australians working overseas and foreign residents working in Australia, including overseeing the section 23AG work, claiming income tax exemptions for Australian residents carrying out their employment duties in foreign jurisdictions. Emma also provides written taxation advice on both Australian and International taxation issues, predominantly for clients in the mining or oil & gas industries, and the preparation of Financial Accounts, Income Tax Returns, BAS and IAS forms. Emma has obtained a Diploma of Australian Tax Law through the Tax Institute and is currently in the process of seeking qualifications through the Chartered Accountants and Taxation Institute Programs which will enhance her passion for taxation and provide additional skill sets.
In her spare time Emma enjoys playing netball, spending time with friends and keeping up to date with all the latest movies at the cinemas.
Lauren Burke is the youngest member of M Squared and has been with the firm since early 2009, and is currently in her 3rd year studying Commerce at the University of Western Australia.
Lauren is a confident and outgoing member of M Squared, assisting with a variety of tasks, including preparing income tax returns, BAS returns, EMDG grants, and basic bookkeeping using MYOB, as well as helping out with the day-to-day running of the company.
"Lady" as she was affectionately dubbed by air crew on Singapore Airlines, has contracted Rachel’s love of internet shopping, noting net-a-porter and Topshop as favourites. In her spare time Lauren can be seen attempting to go to the gym and (fake) tanning.
Laura Windus is the newest member of the M Squared team having commenced with the firm in early August 2010 as an Accountant. Laura is in her final year at Curtin University, undertaking a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Accounting and Taxation.
Laura is a multifunctional member of M Squared, assisting all members of the firm with a variety of work including, preparation of Income Tax Returns and Financial Accounts, preparation of BAS and IAS forms, and assisting with Export Market Development Grants.
In her spare time Laura can be found playing netball or watching any AFL game. Laura also enjoys catching up with friends on the weekend and hanging out at the beach.
Amy Pannell is one of the newest members of the M Squared team having commenced with the firm in January 2011 as an Accountant. Amy completed a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Western Australia with majors in Financial Accounting and Corporate Finance and a minor in Business Law.
Amy is a mulftifunctional member of M Squared, assisting all members of the firm with a variety of work, including preparation of Income Tax Returns and Financial Accounts, preparatioan of BAS and IAS Forms, 23AG/Expatriate work and assisting with Research and Development Tax Concessions.
Amy is also currently seeking qualifications through the Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Taxation Institute of Australia.
In her spare time Amy enjoys going shopping, dining out with friends and planning holidays she can't afford.
Carla Damiano has recently joined the team at M Squared after graduating from Curtin University at the end of 2010, with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree with Majors in Accounting and Finance.
Carla assists all members of the firm with a vairety of work including, preparation of income tax returns, superannuation guarantee charge statements and salary payments. Carla is also commencing further studies through the Taxation Insitute of Australia, and will seek further qualifications through the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
When Carla isn't working she enjoys going out with friends, spending time with family and shopping. Also, one of her favourite interests is barracking for the West Coast Eagles in the AFL.
Shahan Stafford has worked as Craig Miller's Personal Assistant since the establishment of M Squared. Shahan works diligently to keep track of Craig so that he and his family know where he is and what he’s supposed to be doing at all times.
Shahan is also responsible for processing the firms payroll and preparation of the firms financial accounts on a monthly basis. Shahan is also gaining experience in Bookkeeping and utilising MYOB Accounting Software and with this skill she is able to provide assistance to clients on how to use the software effectively.
In her 10 years as a Personal Assistant Shahan has developed excellent computer, organisational and communication skills, and has a very good rapport with all customers, clients, suppliers and fellow staff members. In her spare time Shahan can be seen training for the City to Surf, walking after her dogs and if you can’t find her, she will be away at various locations for weekends.
